Arlington Police Department honors Dr. Jaya Davis with Citizen Community Award for Outstanding Partnership
Arlington, TX – Dr. Jaya Davis received the Citizen Community Award from the Arlington Police Department for her partnership and contributions to the agency.
Dr. Davis is director of Research and Thought Leadership for The Bowman Group and a criminology and criminal justice professor at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Deputy Kyrus Chief Branch nominated Dr. Davis and said she actively builds bridges between academic study and police practice.
Her contributions include:
Educational Collaboration: Regularly incorporating APD employees in her classes, giving students real-world insights into police practices
Community Engagement: Collaborating with APD on projects that improve community relations and foster greater understanding
Academic Research Support: providing key research support to APD, advancing evidence-based policing
Personnel Retention Study: conducting a multi-year retention study with APD's recruiting unit to enhance retention strategies
Deputy Chief Branch said when APD launched a pilot program using drones to answer lower-priority calls, Dr. Davis graciously agreed to study the program’s effectiveness.
“Her study found using drones improved response times, enhanced officer efficiency, and saved valuable manpower hours and taxpayer dollars,” he said. “We are now expanding the program.”
Dr. Davis is also a passionate advocate for survivors of sexual abuse and serves as the Chair of the Tarrant County Sexual Abuse Advisory Council.
"I am deeply honored,” Dr. Davis said. “This award demonstrates the power of collaboration.
I remain committed to supporting APD's efforts to serve and protect the community."
